High density warehouse racking is a type of storage system designed to maximize the use of available space in a warehouse or distribution center. It typically involves the use of high vertical racking units with multiple levels of shelving or pallet positions, which can be accessed by forklifts or other material handling equipment.
One common type of high density warehouse racking is called “drive-in” or “drive-thru” racking. This type of racking system allows forklifts to enter the racking structure and maneuver between the shelving units to access stored pallets. Because the forklifts can drive directly into the racking system, it reduces the amount of aisle space needed for material handling, allowing for more efficient use of floor space.
Another type of high density warehouse racking is called “push-back” racking. In this system, pallets are loaded onto a set of nested carts that are pushed back into the racking structure. When a new pallet is loaded, it pushes the previous pallet back one position, allowing for multiple pallets to be stored in a single lane of racking. When a pallet is unloaded, the carts slide forward, making the next pallet accessible.
In addition, “pallet flow” racking is also a high density racking system where the pallets are loaded from the back of the racking system and they “flow” forward on rails to the front of the pallet flow rack system. These systems can be multiple pallets deep and all items must be the same SKU. As each pallets is removed from the front and subsequently the next pallet in line flows forward in the first position.
High density warehouse racking can be a cost-effective solution for businesses that need to maximize their storage capacity in a limited amount of space. However, it is important to ensure that the racking system is designed and installed properly to ensure safe and efficient operation.
